Further to your previous telephone conversations with Ms. Corrie Tuyl and Ms. Nancy Dale this letter will confirm the information conveyed to you regarding your request that the Society address your concerns pertaining to male circumcision of children as a form of abuse. I understand that you are requesting this letter in order to receive a written response from the Society that will be included in a file you keep on this subject matter.

As you know, the Society's Social and Child Welfare Policy Committee reviewed this matter in the course of developing their 1997/1998 work plan. The Committee had a lengthy list of important matters to consider in the course of developing its work plan. The Committee appreciated the opportunity to discuss this matter, but in light of more urgent issues it was felt that this matter would not be given priority at this time.
